About

Finance Metrics Tools is a free library of professional calculators for the analytical work finance teams do every day: budgeting and variance analysis, capital budgeting and valuation, accounting schedules, statistics and forecasting, and the specialized metrics used to manage hospitals and health systems.

The site exists for a simple reason. Most free financial calculators online are built for consumers and stop at loan payments and savings goals. Analysts, controllers, CFOs and students need tools that handle the real work, show how every result is calculated, and hold up to review.

Who builds these tools

The calculators are designed and reviewed by a Certified Public Accountant with an MBA in finance. That experience spans public accounting, senior administration in higher education, and corporate financial planning and analysis for a multi-hospital acute-care health system, including budgeting, forecasting, covenant compliance, and lender reporting.

Every tool on this site reflects problems that come up in that work: explaining a variance to a board, testing a debt covenant before it is breached, building an amortization schedule for an audit, or estimating how many beds a hospital will need next year.

How the calculators work

  • Formulas follow standard finance and accounting practice and match Excel functions wherever an equivalent exists.
  • Every tool shows its methodology, a worked example, and guidance on interpreting the results.
  • Calculations run entirely in your browser. The figures you enter are not sent to or stored on our servers.

Excel templates

Many calculators have a matching professional Excel template with fully linked formulas, scenarios, and report-ready layouts for teams that need more than a single calculation.

How the site is funded

The calculators are free to use. The site is supported by advertising, affiliate commissions, and sales of Excel templates. None of these affect how a calculator works or the results it produces. Details are in our Affiliate Disclosure.
